Václav Havel's only film showing at Medias Film Festival in Romania
The only film directed by writer and former Czech president, the late Vaclav Havel, '2012,' will be shown out of competition at the Medias Central European Film Festival (MECEFF), that will take place between September 2 and 8, 2012.
The second edition of MECEFF features seven films, all winners of annual prizes given by the participating countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Poland and Slovenia), as well as series of 'bonus' films.
Vaclav Havel's 'Leaving' is a bitter sweet comedy about a chancellor who is dismissed after many years of serving his country. Although he wrote many books and plays, 'Leaving' was Havel only foray into film making. During the Communist era he was an outspoken critic of the Czechoslovakian regime. When Communism ended in Europe, he became president and oversaw the 'Velvet Divorce,' thus he was the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first of the new Czech Republic.
The other films at the festival are “Izlet”, directed by Nejc Gazvoda and “Circus Fantasticus” directed by Janez Burger from Slovenia, “The Corpse Must Die” by Jozef Pasteka from Slovakia, and from Hungary are “1” by Pater Sparrow, “The Unburied Man” by Martei Meszaros and “Tranquility” by Robert Alfoldi, all premiering in Romania.
The festival will take place in Medias, Sibiu County, from September 2 to 8.
Organized by Cinema Screen Management, City Hall Medias, National Center of Cinematography (CNC), Tarnavelor Region and the Ministry of Culture, MECEFF is the only festival in Romania dedicated to the cinema of neighboring Eastern European countries.
