Vodafone Romania externalizes field management operations to Huawei for five years
Chinese IT&C solutions provider Huawei has won a five-year contract with telecom company Vodafone Romania and will take over the field operations management for the telecom company. Huawei will also be in charge of maintenance, site construction, as well as infrastructure issues. Vodafone Romania will have 70 of its specialists joining Huawei, as part of a dedicated team that will handle these activities.
Huawei opened an official subsidiary in Romania in 2003, when it was already working with several companies on the market, such as RDS&RCS , Telemobil (Zapp), Atlas Telecom. It has also worked with Vodafone in the past, when it supplied services and equipment for the 3G network launch. Huawei previously said it wanted to invest EUR 200 million in Romania by 2014. The Chinese company’s main projects were opening the Huawei European Design Center in Pipera area in the capital city , set for February 2012, and a national optic fiber network in Romania, in collaboration with Transelectrica SA.
Vodafone lost 3.1 percent of its customers in Romania in the last three months of 2011, compared to the previous quarter, leaving 8.3 million customers end -2011, the company has announced. The company lost 269,000 customers mostly in the prepaid SIM segment during the third quarter, and a total of 1.5 million customers in 2011.
