Vodafone Romania launches new mobile telephony, digital platform offer under Indygen brand for users under 30

08 July 2013

Telecom operator Vodafone recently launched a new pre-paid SIM card in Romania and a platform under the name Indygen, targeting young Romanians under 30. The platform offers mobile telephony and data services for RON 38 a month, as well as access to other digital products, such as Indygen Cash, Indygen Skillz and Indygen Viewpoint.

According to the official launch statement, which does not mention the affiliation to Vodafone, the project is fueled by an innovation hub made of nine young people under 30.  Earlier this year, Vodafone set up a new company for software development, and registered the Indygen brand.

Indygen Cash is the telephony offer which works with Indypoints, units that can be used either on the Internet, on text messages or on voice services. Calling and texting members of the same Indygen community is free, and the units which are not used during one month can be used in the next month.

Indygen cash allows the users the possibility to make money by becoming Indygen connectors – thus helping add more members to the community, or send ideas for the Idea Bounty briefs. Indygen Skillz gives access to alternative educational content developed with NGOs and student associations, as well as with brands such as Bucuresti Optimist, Artskul or Discovery Channel. Users will order their SIM card and the numbers will have the format 0799.xxx.xxx.

“We have created a product which centers on mobile data and content which highlights the young people's lifestyle. The Indygen SIM gives young people exactly what they lack nowadays: the opportunity to make money, access to learning tutorials and tips and tricks to figure out where they are heading in life,” said Tudor Ghiurca, Director of Indygen.
