Vodafone Romania reports fewer customers but higher revenues per user

08 November 2011

Vodafone Romania managed to slightly grow its revenues during the first six months of the current financial year, but lost some of its customer base in the country. The company grew its revenues by 3 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three-month period ending on September 30 this year. The telecom company's revenues for the six months ending at the end of September reached EUR 410.7 million, the company has announced. Its operational profit went down 13 percent in the first half of the financial reporting year, to around EUR 52 million, according to Vodafone's financial report.

The company lost some clients this year. It reached 8.59 million clients in Romania at the end of September, compared to 9.8 million clients in September 2010. The 1.2 million customers lost are mainly inactive users of the Vodafone prepay card, the company explains.

“We continued to disconnect the inactive users of prepay services, consequent to our strategy to ensure an active client base, not over-dimensioned,” said Iñaki Berroeta, president and CEO of Vodafone Romania.

The telecom company more than doubled its mobile Internet revenues, while also increasing its revenues per user (ARPU). ARPU reached EUR 7, a growth of 1.7 percent compared to the same period of last year.
