Vodafone Romania sees revenues down at end-June but gets more clients on the back of RED packages

19 July 2013

Vodafone Romania's revenues went down by 4 percent between April and June 2013, the mobile telephony provider announced. The company posted some EUR 177 million revenues in Romania during this quarter, compared to the same period of 2012. Excluding the impact of termination tariffs drop, the company's revenues actually went up by 1.1 percent. The increase was mainly due to the success of the RED packages among its clients, said Inaki Berroeta, president and general manager of Vodafone Romania (in picture). Vodafone's RED packages offer unlimited voice minutes and text messages to any network, and mobile data traffic included, as well as smartphones for low prices, in packages which cost EUR 29, 45 or 65 a month.

The provider upped its customer base by 57,000 people compared to the previous quarter, to some 8.1 million clients in Romania. Compared to the same period in 2012, the number of clients was up by some 340,000.

Subscribers made 40 percent of Vodafone's clients, and the rest was covered by users of pre-paid cards. The average revenues per user (ARPU) was at EUR 6.5 between April and June 2013, up from EUR 6 in the previous quarter, but down from EUR 7.2 in the same period of 2012. The Vodafone group saw its revenues worldwide drop by 3.5 percent to some EUR 12 billion.
