Vodafone Romania's advertising account, back to Universal McCann

23 August 2011

The Universal McCann agency will manage Vodafone Romania's advertising budget, after having recently won the pitch against three other agencies. Universal McCann will acquire ad space and be in charge of the media planning for Vodafone Romania starting October this year. Vodafone's advertising account went to OMD in early 2010,following an international pitch. Vodafone had been working for the last 12 years with McCann Erickson.

The recent media agency switch announcement came soon after the appointment of a new marketing manager for Vodafone Romania, Angus Slater, who took the position in June this year.

Telecom company Vodafone lost 2.9 percent of its customers in Romania in the second quarter of this year, reaching 8.9 million customers at the end of June. This was due to the continuous disconnection of the inactive prepaid SIMs from its customer base, according to the company.

Vodafone made a profit of EUR 305.6 million in the 2010/2011 financial year that ended on March 31, the company had previously announced. This EBITDA was 22.8 percent lower than the one posted during the previous financial year.
