Volkswagen sales in Romania are blocked
The sale of Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi cars in Romania is currently blocked, as the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) does not issue ID certificates for these brands until the emission scandal is cleared. The measure refers to cars equipped with Euro5 engines.
Authorities in Romania have issued ID cards for 105,000 Euro5 vehicles from the Volkswagen group, 56,000 of which were new and 49,000 were second-hand at the registration date, said Transport Minister Iulian Matache, reports local Agerpres.
The group’s local dealers currently have on stock some 300 cars which can’t be sold until the emission problems are solved.
Volkswagen is in the middle of a worldwide scandal, for having rigged diesel engine emissions tests in America and Europe. If some Volkswagen models will be recalled in services, the producer will cover the costs.
A person who owns an Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda or Seat can find out if his car is equipped with the software that fools the emission tests, by addressing the auto dealer where he bought his car.
Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi sold about 13,000 new passenger cars in Romania in the first wight months of this year, and had a market share of 21% of the total market.
