What sectors pay salaries of over EUR 1 mln per year in Romania?
It used to be real estate, banking, and investment management that paid the biggest salaries in Romania. Not anymore. None of these sectors appears in the top ten biggest salaries in 2015.
The biggest salary income in Romania was about EUR 3.67 million, or EUR 305,000 per month, last year, which is actually one of the biggest salaries ever recorded in Romania. And the person who got it works in the waste collection sector, according to data from the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) quoted by local News.ro.
And it’s not just this one. The seventh highest salary in Romania, some EUR 1.13 million, was also paid to someone working in the waste collection sector.
Waste collection and management thus appears to be a very lucrative business in Romania, despite not being under the spotlight. Most of the times when this sector has made it into the news it was due to investigations on some illegal deals and due to Romania's poor results in waste recycling.
The second best-paid Romanian in 2015 works in the IT sector. The salaries in this sector have recorded the highest increases in Romania in recent years. However, this particular IT specialist cashed in no less than EUR 2 million last year.
The person with the third highest salary works in consultancy and cashed in EUR 1.67 million, in 2015, closely followed by an employee in the trade business, who got EUR 1.61 million.
Another consultant made EUR 1.21 million, which is also what a grape grower earned in 2015.
The tax agency only reveals the top ten declared salaries and the activity sector in which they were paid, keeping the people’s identity secret.
