A total of 145 cars were reported stolen in Bucharest in the first ten months of this year, up from 127 registered in the same period of 2015. So which of Bucharest’s districts are targeted by car thieves?

District 5 ranks first, with a total of 35 cars stolen between January and October this year, reports local Digi24, citing data from the Bucharest Police. Car thieves mainly stole Dacia cars, but they also took BMW and Audi vehicles. District 5 includes some of the poorest neighborhoods in Bucharest.

District 3 comes next, with 31 cars stolen from the beginning of 2016, followed by District 2 with 27 cars, District 6 with 22 cars, and District 4 with 17 vehicles. District 1 is the safest, as only 13 cars were stolen there between January and end-October.

The Dacia cars are the easiest targets for thieves in the Romanian capital, but they are also the hardest to recover, according to the Police. Most of them end up in locations where they are dismantled and then sold piece by piece.

Besides the Romanian brand Dacia, the car thieves also prefer German and French brands.
