New car registrations, up by 17% in January. Which are the Romanians’ favorite brands?
The number of new vehicles registered in Romania increased by 17.4% in January 2016 compared to the same month the previous year, to more than 8,300 units, according to data from the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registrations - DRPCIV. Some 5,800 were passenger cars and the rest were commercial vehicles.
Dacia remained the Romanian’s favorite car brand, with more than 1,800 cars sold in January 2016, up by 29% year-on-year. Volkswagen ranked second with 523 units (up 20.5% year-on-year), followed by Skoda with 450 cars (down 1.3%), and Renault with 399 units (up by 91%).
On the other hand, the less registered car brands in Romania were Lexus with only six cars, Jaguar and Smart – 4 units, Subaru – 3 cars, and Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, Citroen-DS, Lada, Maserati, Mercedes-AMG, and Rocar – 1 unit each.
Romania saw over 81,100 new car registrations in 2015, up by 15.7% compared to the previous year.
