Which foreign tourists spend most money in Romania?
Israeli tourists spent the most money in Romania surpassing German tourists, in the first half of 2015. More than 60% of the money spent by foreign tourists in Romania come from ten countries, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS) presented by Economica.net.
The highest number of foreign tourists who visited Romania in the first half of this year came from Germany. Compared to the same period last year, the number of German tourists increased by almost 6%. They also spent more, some EUR 56 million, compared to 53 million in the same period of 2014.
However, the foreign tourists who spent the most money in Romania during this period were Israelis. They spent over 63.5 million in the country between January and June, almost double compared to last year. The number of Israeli tourists also went up by 60% year-on-year to over 89,000 people.
Italian tourists ranked third for spending in the first half of the year, with EUR 54.2 million, EUR 10 million more compared to the same period last year.
American tourists spent EUR 45.4 million, up by 54% year-on-year, while British tourists spent over EUR 36 million, 20% more than in the first six months of 2014.
French tourists, however, reduced their spending in Romania compared to last year by a quarter, to EUR 32 million. Polish tourists, on the other hand, spent more in Romania, reaching EUR 22.5 million.
The top 10 highest spending is completed by tourists from Hungary, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
