Who do Romanians blame for the tragedy at Colectiv club in Bucharest?
It’s been more than a month since Romania was shaken by the tragic event at the Colectiv club in Bucharest. A total of 60 people have died following the nightclub fire and many more were injured.
A recent INSCOP survey shows that 99% of Romanians have heard of this incident. The figure is not surprising, however, as the case was highly debated in the media.
When it comes to who do Romanians blame for this tragedy, 34% of respondents said that the club’s owners are responsible while 23.8% believe that the company in charge of the concert and the pyrotechnics is the one to blame. Slightly over 20% of respondents think that the local authorities (such as the District 4 City Hall) are guilty, for allowing the club to operate, while 14.8% say that the central authorities (such as the Government, the Interior Ministry, the Emergency Situations Department) are the ones responsible for the incident.
Surprisingly, there are also Romanians who believe that the young people who went at the concert are to blame for the tragedy. They have a share of 2.3%.
The survey was conducted by INSCOP at the order of Adevarul newspaper between November 26 and December 2.
