Who will pay for the road collapse in the center of Bucharest?

15 December 2015

Italian insurer Generali could pay for the damages related to the collapse of a road segment in Bucharest’s Eroilor area.

The road structure was damaged due to the work on the new subway line connecting Bucharest’s city center to Drumul Taberei, whose main constructor is the Italian company Astaldi.

The Italian builder holds an “all risks” insurance from Generali for the work on the subway line. If it’s decided that the road collapsed due to the constructor, its insurer Generali will have to pay for the damages, reports local Profit.ro.

The road’s collapse may have also affected the structure of some residential buildings in the vicinity. The local authorities have decided on Sunday to evict 14 people from an apartment building that may have been affected. Ten of those people went to stay with relatives, and four went to a hotel, where they had their stay covered by the company that works on the subway line.

Bucharest’s City Hall announced yesterday that the subway line constructor would cover all the reconstruction costs for the affected infrastructure in the area.
