Winter comes early to northern Romania
This year’s first blizzard has caused traffic problems in northern Romania as the Suceava and Neamt counties were placed under code orange for snowfall and blizzard. Tens of towns and villages in Suceava county have been disconnected from the power grid as the snowfall and strong wind damaged the power lines on Sunday.
The air temperatures also dropped severely to as low as 3 degrees Celsius during the afternoon and 0 degrees during the night.
Elsewhere in Romania, the weather authority has issued a code yellow for rain and wind, valid until Monday night. Temperatures have dropped to under 10 degrees in most of the country whereas one week ago there were more than 20 degrees in southern regions.
In Bucharest, rain set in on Sunday night and temperatures are expected to stay under 10 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday. The weather will improve starting Wednesday and temperatures will get back to normal levels for this time of year.
