Wizz Air launches seven new routes from eastern Romania
Low-cost airline Wizz Air has added seven new routes from its base in Iaşi, in north-eastern Romania. The airline will connect the city to Billund, Brussels, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Malmo, Paris and Thessaloniki.
At the same time, it will allocate an additional Airbus 320 aircraft of 180 seats to the Iaşi base to cover the new routes. It will also cover the increase in frequency on two popular routes, namely towards Milano Bergamo and Tel-Aviv. In total, Wizz Air will have 20 additional weekly flights leaving from Iaşi.
With the seven new routes, the operations of the local base increase by 49% this year, and include 550,000 seats put up for sale to 15 destinations in 11 countries.
In the first six months of 2018, Wizz Air flew more than 190,000 passengers from Iaşi, a 15% year-on-year increase.
In 2017, the Iaşi airport saw a traffic of 1.15 million passengers.
Wizz Air currently offers 141 routes towards 22 countries in Europe, including the domestic flight Bucharest – Cluj-Napoca, from 10 local airports. So far, it announced 21 new routes from Romania in 2018.
