Update: Woman injured after ceiling collapses at mall in Romanian seaside resort
A 25-year-old woman was injured on Wednesday evening, July 4, after the ceiling of a store in the City Park Mall in Constanta, a busy seaside resort in Romania, collapsed.
The woman suffered a leg injury and was taken to the Constanta Emergency Hospital, local Mediafax reported.
Update: Mall representatives said in a statement that the Hermosa store, where the incident occurred, was closed and secured. They also said they collaborate with the authorities and store representatives "to identify the causes and establish the necessary measures to prevent similar events in the future."
"According to the contracts concluded with the companies renting the premises of the shopping center, tenants are responsible for the integrity of these spaces. This does not exclude, however, the concern that City Park Mall gives to the safety and security of its visitors. In this sense, we started a separate process of rigorous verification of all the premises in the shopping center," reads the statement.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, when a large piece of the ceiling collapsed right in the middle of the store. Witnesses captured the moment and posted images on social media.
So far, the authorities don’t know what caused this incident. However, this is not the first time something like this happens in this mall. In November last year, another portion of the shopping mall ceiling collapsed, but this time without anyone being hurt.
