Work to begin soon on new underpass at northern entry to Bucharest
Bucharest's mayor Sorin Oprescu has recently announced that work will begin on a new underpass at Piata Presei in around two months. After zoning approval, work will get underway at the main northern entry point to Bucharest and will take about a year and a half to complete, according to the mayor.
Local construction confirm Apolodor together with a German company won the tender for the work contract on the new underpass. The passage will split into two arms, one leading to Mărăşti and Expoziţiei boulevard, the other to Kiseleff.
Speaking on PRO TV's După 20 de ani show broadcast yesterday (March 31), the mayor also said that traffic on the DN 1 road would not be disrupted by the construction work. The planned underpass has previously been blocked by protests from NGOs, which have contested the PUZ (zoning plans) allowing the new construction to go ahead. The mayor did not give any details on the cost of the project during his recent comments.
