World Cup to help fast-food orders go up by a quarter in Romania, online food delivery platform expects

11 June 2014

Online food delivery platform foodpanda expects the World Cup organized in Brazil this year to bring a 25 percent increase in fast-food orders in Romania.

“According to foodpanda’s information, the top three most ordered products in evenings with important matches, such as the Champions League or Europa League finals, were, in  this order, pizza, Chinese food and fast-food, especially shaorma,” reads a statement of foodpanda.

Romanian football fans spend, on average, RON 30 (under EUR 10) on food ordered during a match. The largest order placed on the platform during a football game amounted to RON 120 (some EUR 35), and was made for Chinese food.

Dan Macarie, Country Manager foodpanda Romania, expects an increase in food orders during the World Cup, which will take place between June 12 and July 13, hoping that customers will choose to see the football matches at home, with family and friends, because the games are scheduled to take place late in the evening.

Foodpanda currently collaborates with 200 restaurants in Bucharest, Cluj – Napoca, Timisoara and Iasi.
