German group buys Romanian building material producer

Polish private equity fund Enterprise Investors has sold its stake in the local building material producer Macon to German group Xella International.

The deal needs to receive the approval of the Romanian Competition Council. Its value hasn’t been made public. The transaction could be completed in the first part of 2018.

"With the acquisition of the Macon group, Xella becomes one of the leaders in the local building materials market and the main BCA manufacturer in Romania,” Xella Group CEO Dr. Jochen Fabritius said.

In Romania, Xella recorded a turnover of RON 63.8 million (EUR 14.2 million) last year, up 18% over 2015. It provided building materials to developers such as Hanner, Nusco, Shikun & Binui and Red Sea Group, as well as local developers. Xella owns a BCA factory at Paulesti, Prahova county, built in 2010.

Macon group owns two BCA factories in Deva and Oradea, as well as factories for concrete elements and ceramic elements. The group recorded a turnover of RON 124 million (EUR 26.8 million) last year, up 13% over 2015.
