Yearly inflation rate down to historic minimum in Romania in February

The annual inflation rate went down to 2.59 percent in February, a historic minimum, within the range estimated by analysts. Prices were however 0.64 percentage higher than in January this year, according to data from the country's Statistics Institute. Prices went up month-on-month for eggs – 12.7 percent, vegetables and canned vegetables – up 5.77 percent compared to January. Fruits were 4.48 percent more expensive. The only food product which a lower price compared to January was honey.

For non-food products, prices went up on all segments, of around to 1 percent. Cigarette prices had the higher price increase – 1.4 percent.

Financial analysts had estimated an inflation rate of 2.1 to 2.9 percent for February.
