Young Romanian teacher promotes his language and culture in India
A Romanian teaches Indian students at the New Delhi University to speak Romanian and understand the culture and traditions.
Nicolae Henţ, a teacher from the Central Romanian town of Sighisoara, left for India in November 2013, and now teaches Romanian language and culture to a group of 60 students at the biggest university in the world, according to Digi24.
He already taught his students poems by Romania’s national poet Mihai Eminescu. In India, students respect teachers more, says 35-year old Henţ.
The pay is also better than at home: the salary is double, some EUR 800 in minimum income, according to Digi24. The job is however a short-term one: first a year, with the possibility to prolong for four more years.
In Romania, Henţ was teaching English and Romanian. He was the only out of 296 candidates who qualified for the job in India.
The Romanian language section at the New Delhi University is supported by the Romanian Language Institute and by the Romanian Embassy to India.
