One in five youths are unemployed in Romania
The unemployment rate in Romania reached 6.8% in the second quarter of the year, down from 7.4% in the first quarter. The unemployment rate among young people aged 15-24 reached the highest level of 20.4% during this period, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
The lowest unemployment rate is recorded among people over 55, with 4% among men and 1.4% among women.
The unemployment rate among men reached 7.6% in the second quarter of the year, whereas the unemployment rate for women amounted to 5.6%. More people in urban areas are unemployed (7.2%) compared to those in rural areas (6.2%).
Of the 9.2 million active people in Romania, 8.6 million were employed and 625,000 had no job.
