Only 1% of Romanians use solar energy for heating

23 January 2017

Only 1% of Romanians use solar energy to heat their homes whereas almost 20% use wood and 10% use electricity.

Most Romanian homes are heated via gas micro plants or are dependent on the local heating systems, according to a study by de German utilities group E.ON and Kantar EMNID.

Some 49% of the surveyed Romanians said that they would favor using solar energy as the main heating source, but switching to it would imply a radical transformation.

Wood continues to be used as fuel in many European countries. In Hungary, almost a third of the citizens used wood for heating, followed by the Czechs (20%), and Romanians (19%).

The survey was carried out in eight European countries, namely Romania, Germany, UK, Italy, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Turkey, and Hungary.
