130 riders participate in the only hike & ride competition in Romania this weekend

20 February 2017

This Saturday, 130 skiers and snowboarders will gather in a wild area of the Oslea Massif, Valcan Mountains, for the only hike & ride competition in Romania.

The event, called Red Bull Oslea Hiride, will be organized in Uricani, near the Retezat Natural Park, in an area where there is no ski slope arranged, nor any installation to take competitors on the top of the mountain.

The competition is split into two sections, namely ski and snowboard, with each of them being made of four categories – female open, male open, female pro, and male pro.

The participants will have to climb the mountain on foot, as fast as they can. The timing will be calculated automatically with the help of a chip. Once up on the top, the competitors will rest for maximum 15 minutes, and will then start the descent.

To select the winners, the jury will take into account both the time of ascent and the style in which the descent is made.
