Some 147 customers damaged by Romanian travel agency Genius Travel
Local tour operator Genius Travel has damaged 147 tourists, causing them losses of EUR 136,000 according to the National Tourism Authority (ANT).
ANT got the information from the agency’s main shareholder Ionut Costea. He claimed that the company had an internal problem and it lacked cash, reports local Mediafax. It was no fraud, he argued.
In mid-August, the firm’s clients were told in a text message that they would not be able to go on holidays although they had paid for them, because the company was insolvent. ANT controlled the official documents of Genius Travel, and then announced the Police and the National Consumer Protection on the findings, ANT president Marius Popescu said.
Genius Travel hasn’t officially filed for insolvency yet although it said it would.
