Romania registers over 78 mln cyber alerts in 2014

25 March 2015

More than 78 million cyber alerts were registered in Romania last year, according to Sorin Grindeanu, the Romanian Minister for Information Society, who recently presented the CERT-RO report on 2014.

“There were around 2.5 million unique IPs extracted from all alerts. Approximately 11,000 .ro domains were reported at CERT-RO as being compromised throughout 2014, 5% more than in 2013,” said Gradisteanu, cited by local Agerpres.

According to him, the existing technical issues make it impossible to identify the exact number of devices or people affected.

However, he said that it is important to remember that these alerts “cover about 24% of the national cyberspace, based on the number of assigned IPs, and, therefore, measures need to be taken to solve the situation.”

Over half of the alerts targeted improperly configured systems, unsecured or vulnerable, which offered various unsecured services to the Internet. These were used by attackers for hiding their identities and for launching attacks on other targets, according to the report.

Almost a quarter of all the assigned IPs in Romania were involved in at least one cyber alert in 2014, 16% more than in the previous year.
