A third of precious metal products in Romania are counterfeit

19 September 2014

Almost a third of precious metal products sold on the Romanian market are inconsistent and present misleading information on their tags, according to Marius Alexandru Dunca, the president of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC), during a conference.

Among these there are precious metals filled with lead, to artificially increase their weight and precious stones of inferior quality sold with superior quality certificates. The counterfeiting activity in Romania is growing, Dunca said, but the ANPC has limited attributions in fighting this phenomenon.
