Painting by Romanian Adrian Ghenie sells for EUR 22,000 at online auction
Adrian Ghenie’s Self-portrait with Laurels painting sold for EUR 22,000 at a recent auction organized by Romanian online art auction platform Lavacow.
The allotment price was five times higher than the starting price. 11 competitors from six countries went through 23 bidding steps for this painting.
It was the first time when one of Ghenie’s works sold at a public auction in Romania. The self-portrait was made between 2000 and 2001, using the oil technique.
Romanian contemporary painter Adrian Ghenie sold paintings worth millions of euros at auctions organized by Sotheby’s in October and July last year.
According to a ranking made by artnet.com, he was the best-selling young contemporary artist in the world in 2014.
The spring Lavacow auction also featured works signed by international and Romanian artists such Salvador Dali, Joan Miró, Andy Warhol, Dan Perjovschi and Sorin Ilfoveanu.
Lavacow.com was launched on May 22, 2014, during the first international art fair in Romania, the Art Safari Pavilion in Bucharest.
