Affidea Center in Bucharest becomes European Reference Center for GE Healthcare
The Affidea Center in Bucharest’s Fundeni Clinical Institute has become a Center of Excellence in Oncology and a Reference Center for GE Healthcare in Europe, following Affidea’s investment of EUR 5 million in the most advanced GE radiology diagnostic equipment in Romania, the company announced.
As a European Reference Center for GE Healthcare, Affidea Center Fundeni will welcome medical teams from Europe, which will come to the center in Bucharest to study the best practices on the use of GE Healthcare’s advanced technologies for early diagnosis and monitoring of cancer patients.
“Romania is a still growing market, and the need for oncology medical services is still very high. The EUR 5 million investment in Affidea Fundeni Center confirms our commitment to offer Romanian patients high-quality medical services and access to leading-edge medical technologies. We are happy that we could collaborate with GE Healthcare on this important project,” said Dimitris Moulavasilis, CEO Affidea Group.
Some 75,000 new cancer cases are diagnosed in Romania every year. Moreover, according to the World Health Organization, the number is expected to rise significantly over the next two decades.
Over 170.000 patients are coming to Affidea Center of Excellence in Oncology every year for diagnostics or treatment monitoring, 80% of them being cancer patients.
Affidea is the largest investor and operator in Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in the healthcare sector in Europe. The company provides medical imaging services, high-performance nuclear medicine, cancer treatment, and laboratory analysis in its over 175 centers in 14 countries.
In Romania, Affidea is a provider in the field of radiology diagnostic, being present on the market for 14 years. The company runs 17 centers on the local market.
GE has been active in Romania since 1984, when the company registered the local representative office and hired only two people. Since then, all GE businesses lines have entered the Romanian market, bringing the total number of employees to over 500.
