After 2013 win, Romania skips this year's Berlin Film Festival's official competition, but is present in satellite events
After winning the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film festival in 2013, Romania doesn't have any film in the official competition of the famous film festival in Berlin this year.
Romanian actress Cosmina Stratan, which was included in the Shooting Stars program, is the only Romanian presence in the official competition.
Several events revolving around the famous awards include Romanian film makers or productions, however, and a handful of Romanians were chosen in the jury or in experts panels.
Romanian actress Cosmina Stratan has been selected among 10 up-and-coming European actors as a “Shooting Star” and will appear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Organized by European Film Promotion (EFP), the “Shooting Star Award” program presents 10 emerging European actors and actresses from 10 different countries to the international press, public and industry at the festival.
A Romanian film, Corneliu Porumboiu's feature – length Al doilea joc/The second game was included in Forum, a non-competing section for documentaries and experimental films by young film makers.
Na Caranfil's 6,9 pe scara Richter/ 6.9 on the Richter scale is one of the 39 feature length movies within the Berlinale CoProduction Market, which runs in parallel with the film festival.
Film producer Ada Solomon, director Corneliu Porumboiu and screen writer Răzvan Rădulescu are included in the Berlinale Talents' experts panel, where over 120 international experts will share their experiences with young talents, between February 8 and 13.
Four other Romanians, director Adina Istrate, editor Alexandru Petru, producer Gabriela Suciu and actress Elena Andreea Vasile were selected in the Berlinale Talents program.
Film critic Mihai Fulger will be part of the jury at the FIPRESCI section within the Berlinale.
Romania will have a stand at the Berlinale Film Market, where several Romanian directors will be present, and where Romanian films will be screened for the public.
The Berlin Film Festival starts on February 6 and should end on February 16. It is expected to attract over 450,000 viewers, 3,000 journalists from 80 countries, and over 400 films in the program.
Last year, Romania got the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for the film Child's Pose/Pozitia Copilului, directed by Calin Peter Netzer.
