Air traffic controllers in Romania to go on strike this week
Air traffic controllers in Romania will go on a warning strike for two hours, on Wednesday, July 15.
The strike will take place between 11:00 and 13:00 and will affect the air traffic. During this period, Romania’s Air Traffic Services Administration – ROMATSA will cover one third of the air traffic.
The air traffic controllers’ strike comes after their representatives failed to reach an agreement with ROMATSA’s management on the new collective labor agreement. The old one expired at June 1, 2015.
The controllers’ union has a series of requests it submitted to ROMATSA’s management. If these requests aren’t met, the controllers may decide to go on general strike, which would paralyze air traffic in Romania.
The last time when air controllers in Romania have thought about going on strike was in the early 90s.
