Air traffic controllers’ strike blocks all flights to and from Bucharest for two hours
All flights to and from Bucharest’s Henri Coanda International Airport will be suspended for two hours, from 11:00 to 13:00 local time, on Wednesday July 15, as the air traffic controllers go on strike.
The 600 air controllers working for the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration – ROMATSA will go on warning strike on Wednesday, for the first time in the last 20 years. According to the law, the air controllers must monitor a third of the normal air traffic during the strike.
They have decided to monitor all international flights that transit Romania’s air space during the two-hour window, but plane landings and take offs on Bucharest’s airport will be completely suspended, the airport’s administration has announced. Thus, all the flights that were supposed to depart or arrive during the two hours will be delayed until after 13:00. A total of 40 flights will be affected.
Flights from Paris, Rome, London, Vienna, Munich and Istanbul should have landed during the two-hour frame. Flights leaving to Paris, London, and Munich will also be impacted.
