Which airlines control the low-cost market in Romania?
Three airlines control 98% of the low-cost flight market in Romania, according to Innovata.
Wizz Air ranks first, but its market share dropped from 67.7% in the 2015 fiscal year to 60.3% in the 2016 fiscal year, reports local Economica.net. The company flew 4.5 million people in and from Romania. The most popular route was Bucharest-London.
Second came Blue Air, which saw a slight increase in its market share, from 22.5% to 23.6%.
Ryanair, on the other side, recorded a significant growth of its market share, from 4.8% to 13.7%. Michael O'Leary, the head of Ryanair, said last year that the company wanted to fly 10 million passengers in five years on the Romanian market. The airline has also announced that it would cut the ticket price by 7%.
