Alpha Bank Romania returns to profit in 2016
Alpha Bank Romania, the largest bank with a Greek capital in the local market, returned to profit last year, recording a gross profit of EUR 13.1 million, according to the data published by the parent bank.
In 2015, Alpha Bank reported EUR 18 million losses in Romania.
The operating income of Alpha Bank Romania increased by almost 16% last year and reached EUR 141 million, while the operating costs decreased slightly to EUR 93.4 million.
The bank's gross loan portfolio recorded a slight drop last year. At the end of December, Alpha Bank had a gross loan book worth EUR 2.8 billion, 1% less compared to the end of 2015. Both the corporate and the consumption loan portfolio decreased last year.
Alpha relied more on mortgage loans, which increased by 4% to EUR 994 million. The bank’s deposits increased by 25% to EUR 1.7 billion.
