American retailer Gap breaks up with Romania: all three stores close down
American retailer Gap has made an exit from the Romanian market, where it closed down all its shops, according to Ziarul Financiar.
Run under franchise by the Greek group Marinopoulos, Gap closed down its last shop in Baneasa Shopping City.
The decision to leave the Romanian market comes five years after entering it. Gap's first store in Romania was opened in 2009, in Baneasa Shopping City. Two more shops followed in Sun Plaza and in Plaza Romania shopping malls.
Gap is the third largest fashion retailer in the world, after Inditex and H&M. Both Inditex and H& are currently present in Romania, both with large networks of shops.
