Romanian businessman Dan Besciu, associate and administrator of SC Euroconstruct 98 Trading, was detained Wedensday evening by prosecutors of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

He is being investigated in a case of tax evasion, money laundering and embezzlement, the damage amounting to around RON 34 million (some EUR 7.6 million), according to judicial sources quoted by local Mediafax.

The same preventive measure was also applied for Josep Horneger, administrator at SC Swietelsky Constructii Feroviare SRL.

The two businessmen will be presented to the court with the proposal to be placed under preventive arrest.

DIICOT made several searches in this case at offices of railways operator CFR Calatori and other companies’ headquarters. Following these searches, eight people targeted in the case, including Besciu and Horneger, were brought in for questioning.
