Apple nominates Romanian video games producer among promising developers for 2014
A Romanian video games producer has been nominated by Apple as one of the most promising eight developers in its App Store for 2014.
Atypical Games from Romania is however headquartered in Mountain View, California, and controlled by Romanian firm Revo Solutions by Andrei George Lopata and Cristina Isabela Lopata.
Atypical Games had a turnover of USD 2.4 million in 2013, and a net profit of about USD 0.5 million, according to Mediafax newsqire, which quoted Lopata. Around a third of the sales were via games downloaded from the App Store goes to Apple, and the rest, to the developer. The Romanian company has 70 employees, out of which 50 are listed as application testers/quality assurance, and the rest are developers.
The first game developed by the Romanians for the App Store is called "FAST - Fleet Air Superiority Tactics!”, a fight jet simulator, launched in 2009. Its game Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders, which costs USD 0.99, was awarded by Apple with an Apple Design Award. Apple even chose to include a screen capture of an Atypical Games products in its official iPad mini presentation.
The most recent launch from the Romanian developer is a tank simulator, Battle Supremacy, which is USD 4.99. The most popular so far was Storm Raiders, with 4.8 million downloads, most of which were made during a week when the game was offered free of charge.
The other video games producers nominated by Appple for 2014 were Duolingo (US), Simogo (Sweden), Frogmind (UK), Plain Vanilla Corp (Iceland), Lemonista (China), BASE (Japan) and Savage Interactive (Australia).
In 2013, Apple's App Store generates USD 10 billion in sales, with over USD 1 billion in December only. Users generated 3 billion application downloads in 2013.
