Bucharest’s ARCUB cultural center hosts exhibition dedicated to Sanziene midsummer celebration
The ARCUB – Gabroveni Inn cultural centre in downtown Bucharest will host later this month a special exhibition dedicated to the local midsummer celebration of Sanziene.
The Miresele Soarelui/Brides of the Sun exhibition, which features precious pieces of popular wear curated by Iulia Gorneanu together with Ana Maria Crişan and enhanced by multimedia and floral installations, will be on show from June 19 to 25 in ARCUB's Boltilor Hall. Women's holiday and day shirts from the beginning of the 20th century will be on display, alongside traditional costumes from various parts of the country and old ornaments.
The exhibition project also includes a projection room, a space where "images extracted from the archive documentation become hallucinations, presenting images from the past of the Romanian village, elements of port and festive outfits," the organizers said. The screenings are structured as short films, incorporating excerpts from local folklore, which appear and disappear on the walls of the inn.
On the evening of June 21, visitors are also invited to celebrate the summer solstice with a Corina Sîrghi & 7TH SENSE concert, which will take place from 19:00 in the passageway of Gabroveni Inn.
The Brides of the Sun exhibition can be visited Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 20:00. Those who purchase tickets on June 21 can access the Corina Sîrghi & 7TH SENSE concert without an additional fee.
Tickets can be purchased online from Arcub.ro, Entertix.ro, Myticket.ro, in partner stores, and at the ARCUB ticket office.
