Around 30,000 people marching in Bucharest, number to increase

27 October 2010

The number of protesters marching on the streets downtown Bucharest had reached 30,000 by noon, below the 80,000 figure previously announced by organizers. However, it is so far the largest street protest in Romania this year and organizers say the number will increase.

The protesters are asking for the Boc Government dismissal and express their discontent with the salary cuts for state employees.

The protest is being staged the same day when the Romanian Parliament is expected to vote the motion of non-confidence submitted against the Boc cabinet.

Several Social Democratic Party (PSD) members have also joined the march, together with the PSD leader Victor Ponta.
