Retailer Auchan today (December 3) opened its first store in Sibiu, Romania, the sixth unit converted to the brand Auchan from the 20 Real stores the retailer took over from Metro Group.

According to Auchan Romania marketing director Tiberiu Danetiu, quoted by the local media, the retailer invested EUR 2 million in remodelling the former Real hypermarket.

The new store located in Shopping City Sibiu commercial center has a total sales area of 6,000 sqm and offers a range of 40,000 products.

The Auchan-Real transaction was completed in September this year, following the agreement signed between Auchan and Metro Group in November 2012, and the green light received from Romania’s Competition Council in late July.

After the Real takeover,  Auchan Romania reached 31 operating stores with other two under construction, a total net sales area of over 250,000 sqm, some 10,000 employees, three logistic platforms, some 70 million customers annually and a combined turnover of some EUR 1 billion.
