Auchan opens supermarket in Bucharest's famous former communist store
Local retailer Auchan Retail Romania will open by the end of this year its first supermarket in Romania, in a flagship location for Bucharest, namely the Bucur Obor shopping center, a former communist store, the company has announced.
The sales area will cover about 2,300 sqm. The partnership with Bucur Obor allows Auchan to develop its proximity retail, said Auchan Retail Romania general director Ionut Ardeleanu.
Auchan Retail Romania has 33 hypermarkets and 4 MyAuchan proximity stores with over 280,000 sqm of net sales area. The retailer recorded a turnover of over EUR 1.2 billion in 2016.
In May, Auchan opened its first store in an OMV Petrom gas station in Romania. The store is located in Bucharest, near the Pacii metro station, in the Militari neighborhood and covers some 230 sqm. It is a pilot project that could be extended.
