Banks in Romania may tighten conditions for consumer loans
Banks operating in Romania will slightly tighten the conditions for granting consumer loans in the first quarter of this year, continuing a trend that started at the end of 2016.
Meanwhile, the conditions for mortgage loans will remain unchanged, after two quarters of relaxation, according to a survey carried out by Romania’s National Bank (BNR).
In the last quarter of 2016, banks tightened the lending conditions for consumer loans, but kept them unchanged for loans used for the purchase of housing and land (mortgage loans), reads the BNR survey. The demand for consumer loans and mortgage loans increased significantly in the last three months of 2016.
“Credit standards for mortgage lending remained unchanged in Q4 of 2016 after a significant relaxation in the previous quarter,” reads the BNR survey.
