Romanian lender BCR appoints Tomas Spurny as new CEO

The Supervisory Board of Romanian lender BCR named Tomas Spurny as their new CEO. He will replace Dominic Bruynseels whose contract expires on April 1, 2012. Bruynseels took over the helm of BCR, a bank with EUR 16.5 billion in assets in 2008.

In the last 10 years Tomas Spurny has been CEO of several major financial institutions and banks in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Before moving into banking instituions, Spurny worked for management consultancy firm McKinsey and Company, advising financial institutions on various markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

BCR has also appointed Bernd Mittermair as Chief Financial Officer, brought back Martin Skopek as board Member responsible for retail business, appointed Sergiu Manea as board member for the Treasury, Capital Markets & Large Group Corporates and named Christian Bruckner as Chief Operating Officer.

BCR is majority owned by Austrian Erste Group.
