Bear attacks leave two dead in Romania
A recent spate bear attacks has left two dead and several more injured in the areas around Dâmboviţa Moroieni, a town in a mountainous area near Sinaia. The most recent attacks occurred today (September 19 ) leaving a 64 year old man dead, while a little later a shepherd was confronted by a bear, but found refuge in a hut and escaped unhurt. On Saturday (September 15 ) a man was killed and two others injured in a bear attack in the same area, according to information released by the local police.
The local media reports that the bear may have been trapped in a poacher's snare and attacked after struggling free. “This case is most likely about poaching. The bear was caught in a trap and injured. Clearly it is poaching. We do not know why the man who was attacked was there – whether he was just passing by or if he had set the trap,” said the local prefect Dragos Rusu, quoted by Mediafax.
