Beer sales go slightly up in Romania
The Romanian beer market went up by 2% in 2017 versus the previous year, reaching a sales volume of 16.11 million hectoliters.
The beer consumption per capita was 82 liters, according to data released by Romania’s Brewers Association.
The total investments in the beer industry reached EUR 71.8 million in 2017, slightly up compared to 2016, according to the same source. The association’s members have invested a total of EUR 1.47 billion since entering the local market.
According to the brewers’ association, the total added value the sector generates directly and indirectly is over EUR 860 million per year while the direct and indirect taxes generated amount to more than EUR 530 million per year. Over 97% of the domestic beer consumption is covered by the local production.
The beer in plastic bottles remains the Romanians’ favorite, with a share of close to 51% of the total volume, followed by the beer in glass bottles, with 27.5% of the total, and canned beer, with 18.2%.
