Best places in the world to be a mother: Where does Romania stand?

Romania is not among the best places in the EU to be a mother. A recent report published by Save the Children organization has ranked Norway as the best place in the world to be a mother. On the other hand, Somalia comes last among the 179 countries included in this report.

Romania is at number 66, ranking last among the 28 EU member states. Romania’s neighbor Bulgaria ranks 44th while Hungary is at number 51 - both countries catering better to the needs of mothers. 

Nordic countries fare best. Finland comes second in the overall ranking, followed by Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The last ten countries are Haiti and Sierra Leone (169), Guinea-Bissau (171), Chad (172), Cote D’Ivoire (173), Gambia (174), Niger (175), Mali (176), Central African Republic (177), the Democratic Republic of Congo (178) and Somalia (179).

The study was conducted based on several criteria such as maternal health, education, income level and women’s status.
