Street theater festival takes over downtown Bucharest this weekend

More than 200 artists from Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, and France will perform at the twelfth edition of the international street theater festival B-FIT in the Street!, set to take place between June 30th and July 2nd in Bucharest.

The program includes aerial acrobatics, interactive installations, live music, water performances, and more.

The festival opens on June 30th in the city’s University Square with the acrobatics installation RoZéo, presented by the artists of the French company Gratte Ciel, followed by the French acrobatics production Tawa, combining dance and live music with feats of endurance and chromatic explosions, held in George Enescu Square.

The first day of the festival also includes three performances of the interactive music show Street Piano (Italy), held on the sidewalk in front of the National Art Museum (MNAR). Later in the evening, giant puppets, inspired by the fables of Jean de La Fontaine, will entertain the audiences with the itinerant performance Animal Fairytale (France), in the area of George Enescu Square – Revoluției Square – Muzica Store.

Meanwhile, in University Square, and the Old Town’s Lipscani and Gabroveni streets and Roma Square, large-size swans, Batucada drummers, and other fantastic characters are part of the shows Les Cignes (Italy), Stilt Parrots (The Netherlands), and Batucada Los Vikingos (Spain).

This year’s edition of the festival brings as a premiere the night shows held on the river Dâmboviţa. French company Ilotopie will present DriFt and The Whale Street Show in the area of the Națiunile Unite Bridge and further down Calea Victoriei.

The festival’s second day will bring the dance and acrobatics show Flower Sway Poles, where performers dance on top of giant flowers in University Square, the sound installations Big Ears (France), the performance Dodos (France) in front of the Odeon Theater, and the parade performance 20’ Street Ballet (France), inspired by the universe of the 1920s cabaret.
