Popular ridesharing platform enters Romanian market

15 April 2015

BlaBlaCar, one of the most popular platforms for city-to-city ridesharing in Europe, recently expanded to the Romanian market as well as Serbia, Croatia and Hungary, after acquiring Hungarian competitor AutoHop, in March.

The former AutoHop members will now be part of BlaBlaCar’s global network, which has some 10 million members in 18 countries. The BlaBlaCar app is already available in Romania.

BlaBlaCar has a similar business model to that of Airbnb, the most popular accommodation sharing app. It allows drivers to make some money and passengers to get from one city to another cheaper.

The French company also announced it will acquire German competitor Carpooling.com.

BlaBlaCar became one of the most promising European tech startups after it managed to raise USD 100 million last year to finance its expansion.
