Blessed light from midnight mass caused ten fires in Bucharest on Easter
Ten fires were recorded in the Romanian capital Bucharest on Easter night, and most of them were caused by unattended burning candles. However, there were no casualties. Six of the fires were in houses, three in cars and one in a store, according to the Emergency Situations Unit.
People left the burning candles on the window ledge or inside the room, and the fires caused only material damage.
On Easter night, many Orthodox Christian Romanians go to church at midnight to take the blessed light, which is then carried to the graves of their family members, where candles are lit, and then the same light is brought back home, to protect the house and family, as a symbol of resurrection and purity.
