Romanian low cost airline launches first internal flights

09 July 2015

Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air will launch its first internal flights connecting the capital Bucharest to Iasi, the country’s fourth largest city, located in Eastern Romania.

Blue Air thus becomes the first low-cost airline to have internal flights. In the past years, only state-owned airline Tarom has been operating internal flights.

Blue Air’s flights from Bucharest to Iasi and return will be available starting October 25, but the tickets can already be booked on the company’s website and through over 3,000 partner travel agencies, according to the company’s representatives.

Prices start at EUR 47.9 with VAT and airport taxes included. The ticket price also includes a hand luggage of up to 10 kilos, a hold baggage of up to 32 kilos, and snack. There will be two flights from Bucharest to Iasi, one in the morning and one in the evening. Return flights will have a similar schedule.

“Internal flights have always been among the top requests we got from our passengers, and we are happy we can cover this need with the Bucharest to Iasi flights. This was possible with the support of the Iasi International Airport’s representatives,” said Gheorghe Racaru, Blue Air CEO.

Blue Air currently flies from Bucharest to 21 external destinations. The company also operates flights from Bacau, Sibiu and Constanta, as well as from two international bases in Larnaca (Cyrus) and Torino (Italy).

Blue Air is the third largest airline operating in Romania by the number of passengers after Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air and Romanian state-owned Tarom.
